Professional Development for Compton Unified

CSIhosted a week-long professional development workshop for Compton Unified School District math teachers and Project Reach tutors who will be teaching math during the summer sessions of 2016.

Kekai Bryant, Coordinator of the Teacher Support Institute, along with two professors at Cal State University Dominguez Hills, collaborated with Compton Unified administrators and teachers in creating an interactive curriculum for middle school.

In addition, teachers participated in classes preparing them for the new curriculum. Each day, teachers and workshop facilitators built upon pedagogy challenging students to come with innovative ideas in solving real-world math problems. By using project-based, experiential learning, the curriculum aims to reinvigorate students’ approach and attitudes towards math.
